Hey I just realized that you are mentioning the case where page is blocked in robots.txt but still appearing in serps dud to relevancy of outbound links...sorry for my bad:)

But I have observed that if this is the case with yahoo then meta noindex is not of use.

About last paragraph:
IMO, if a page is already in Google’s Index then the easiest way to remove it would be, simply blocking it in robots.txt and then use Google's removal tool.

Using noindex over robots.txt might be a better approach for page that is currently not showing up in searches.

Excellent explanation of the ways to prevent indexation, and the ways that don't work well. I took the other angle on my blog -- how to deindex once it's already indexed, especially for duplicate content -- and I recommended similar tactics in my post, with the addition of 301s, 404s and canonical tags. Love the focus of your blog, I'll have to keep an eye on it.
Thanks, Jill Kocher

Nice article. It's amazing how many people think no-following a link will prevent Google from finding (and indexing) that page!
